コンピュータに人間が発声した文を上手に聞き取らせるためには、音に関する知識に加え、単語並びの規則（文法）と各単語の発音（単語辞書）を教えておく必要があります。では、コンピュータの知らない単語を発声してしまったら、どうなるでしょうか？
ここでは、単語辞書に載っていない単語を認識するための新しい手法を紹介します。
To make a computer to recognize well what we say, we have to teach the computer
not only the phonic knowledge but also the rules of word order (grammar) and the
pronunciation of individual words (word dictionary). What will happen if we say
words that the computer does not know? Here, we will introduce a new method to
make a computer recognize words that do not appear on the word dictionary.
