What determines the personality of voice?

声によって相手が誰かを聞き分けることは人間にとっては容易ですが、計算機にとって個人の識別はなかなか難しい課題です。なぜ、どのようにして声に個性が生まれるのか？この問題は実はよくわかっていませんが、顔の形が一人ずつ異なるように、声を作る器官の形が一人ずつ違うためと考えられます。形の違いがどのような声の音色に影響するかを調べた研究を紹介します。
Humans can easily identify a person from the voice, while computers are not quite
efficient in this task. Why and how is the personality of voice produced? Indeed
we don't know the answer yet. It is natural, however, to conceive that the shape
of vocal organs determines voice quality just like a human face has its personality.
This article introduces our studies on the relationship between the fine structures
of vocal organs and the quality of voice.
