Report on the Japanese-English Generation System

Abstract:This report concerns the J-E output of the TDMT system, based on its performance on all the examples in the corpora accessed via: JE-closed/JE-japanese, JE-closed/JE-original, and JE-original/JE-training. Over a period of 4 months I worked on the output of the J-E system, with a goal of improving the naturalness of the English output. This goal was achieved with good success given the current TDMT system. This report provides an overview of the kinds of generation problems that I initially encountered, and then briefly discusses the changes made. Finally, I discuss the various remaining problems, which all involve contextual information.
