Description of fundamental frequency in read speech in the ATR 200 sentence database

Abstract:This report describes the fundamental frequency characteristics as found in 1000 sentences read by five speakers from the ATR phonetically-balanced English database. It provides basic principles for the automatic segmentation of speech for prosodic analysis, and shows how meaningful chunking of sense groups is reflected in the prosodic structuring of the utterances, as indicated by their fundamental frequency contours. The work described in this report was performed during a six-week stay at ATR ITL and can be used in conjunction with duration and amplitude measures for auto-segmentation of speech by prosody.
