立体ディスプレイにおけるコマ収差による奥行きひずみ

Abstract:Recent stereoscopic displays, such as Head-Mounted Displays, are designed to have a wide viewing angle and large magnifications, although its weight and size are required to be light and small. These structural requirements must cause larger optical aberrations than traditional stereoscopic displays, such as mirror stereoscope. The large optical aberrations in recent stereoscopic displays might distort perceived depth. We have to know the relation between the magnitude of aberrations and depth distortions produced by the aberrations for improving stereoscopic displays. In this study, we investigated the effects of the third-order coma aberration in a binocular stereoscopic display on depth perception. Coma aberrations were simulated to make using a computer and presented on displays in a mirror stereoscope. The magnitude of depth distortion was measured using a psychophysical technique. Subjects matched the perceived depth of a prove image having no aberration to that of a test image having coma aberration by controlling the binocular disparity of the prove. The results showed that the third-order coma aberration produces depth distortion.
